Leicester’s City star Riyad Mahrez is being lined up as a replacement for Manchester City bound Alexis Sanchez in January according to The Daily Star.
The Gunners were reported to have made unsuccessful attempts to sign the Algerian international over the past two summers, but Leicester has been holding out for £45 million which the gunners are not prepared to meet.
Reports in the Algerian press however believes Wenger is still interested in the Mahrez, and the club might up their bid in order to get him in January.
After an explosive title winning season with Leicester in 2016/2017 where he was named PFA Player of the year, his form dropped last season, but with Claude Puel’s appointment as manager recently Mahrez form has improved with five goals in his last eight games.
When he was asked why Arsenal failed to sign him last summer, he said “I don’t know what happened, it’s football, you never know what will happen.”
Arsenal offered £25 million last season, but they have resigned to losing Alexis Sanchez and have identified Mahrez as his replacement. With his improved form they are going to improve their offer for him.
