Manchester City are set to rival Arsenal to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Mahrez wanted to leave the King Power stadium last summer to a Champions League club but the Foxes asking price scared off suitors.
It’s been rumored that Arsenal will still try to sign the Algerian who remains keen on a move away from the King Power stadium.
The Sun via the Daily Cannon, are now claiming we could face competition from Manchester City.
The report suggests City see Mahrez as a good option for squad depth, which to me doesn’t make any sense as the winger would want to join a club where he will be playing regularly.
Mahrez, wants to be playing at the top level and feels he has to leave Leicester to accomplish that.
Arsenal and Chelsea are two clubs that have been linked with him since the summer and will no doubt be linked in the winter transfer window again.
It remains to be seen whether Leicester will soften their stand this time around so Mahrez can finally leave. Should that even happen, I don’t think Arsenal would be the winger’s next destination.
He’s never been the club’s first choice even though Wenger is a big fan of his, so I don’t think we will be making a move for him even though he becomes available.
