Arsenal have been handed a huge blow in its attempt to sign Brazil star Luan.
Luan is regarded as Gremio’s best player and has been dubbed the next Ronaldinho due to his similar kind of play with the former Barcelona man.
The Gunners were reportedly hoping to sign the forward for around £26m in January but things are set to be complicated after he signed a new deal at his club.
Luan started as a footballer, only to quit football in 2009 to play futsal professionally. He only returned to football recently and has wowed clubs with his quality since returning to professional football. He has now decided to remain in his homeland until 2020.
His fine form for Gremio had caught Arsenal’s attention and we were watching developments with keen interest but his decision to sign a new deal has killed any hope of signing him for now.
Speaking after the contract renewal, Gremio president Romildo Bolzan said: “We are very happy because this is what Gremio always wanted.
“Luan had said that he was ready to renew and that he would not leave Gremio unless the situation was resolved.
“Additionally, it shows that we are willing to keep our players, our key assets.
“And most importantly those who have come through our youth ranks.
“This is typical of what our policy of capitalizing on what we have inside the club, and to make Gremio more competitive, can achieve.
“This is a time to celebrate.”
That’s all that then.
Arsenal won’t get the chance to sign Luan anytime soon unless we are ready to pay at outrageous fee to get him.
Liverpool were also rumored to be interested in him and this new deal would have an impact in their interest as much as it would have on Arsenal.
It wouldn’t be surprising if we continue to monitor the striker’s situation ahead of a future move.
