Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recalled how he snubbed a move to Arsenal when he was much younger.

The Red Devils no. 10 has revealed that as a youngster he had the chance to join the Gunners pending a successful trial but turned it down.

Speaking ahead of United’s victory over Arsenal on Saturday evening, the former Sweden captain revealed why he turned down the Gunners offer.

“I went to London for an appointment with Wenger, who asked me to audition for the Gunners,”Four Four Two reports Ibrahimovic told Sky Sport Italia. “I told him ‘I will not do a trial: either you take me or not, I’m not here to waste time’.

“I already had that kind of trust [in myself], because in my mind I was the strongest of all even when I was young. I met Wenger because I expected him to tell me to start with them right away. But Ibra does not test.

“When I was young, in my mind no one was better than me. I watched Ronaldo, Romario and [Roberto] Baggio on TV and I had one goal: I wanted to show that I was the best”

After turning down the chance to perform a trial at Arsenal as a youngster and then going on to achieve very big things in his trophy laden career thus far, Ibrahimovic was again heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in 2016 after his contract with French champions Paris Saint-Germain came to an end.

Just like the first time, he opted against moving to North London and instead chose to join rivals Man Utd.

At 36, there’s no chance of Zlatan lining up for Arsenal again. We are now left to wonder what might have been had we signed him up several years ago.
