Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could sign a contract extension to remain at the Emirates beyond the current campaign as talks between the Gunners and the player’s representatives understood to be progressing well.
The German international who is into the last year of his contract at the Emirates has been linked with a move to a host of top European clubs with Manchester United and Barcelona reported to be keen.
It is however understood that unlike the situation of Alexis Sanchez who is determined to quit the Gunners next summer, remaining with the Gunners is a realistic option for Ozil.
The 29-year-old who is free to negotiate with foreign clubs from the turn of the year has surprisingly received no formal offers till date.
Besiktas have also been linked with the former Real Madrid star and, while his agent confirmed Ozil was happy to hear of the interest from the Turkish club, he however revealed that the midfielder is determined to remain in the Premier League for now.
Sogut told Fanatik : “Mesut is glad to hear of Besiktas being interested in him, however, no proposal has reached us.” Reports Goal
“Even if that did happen, he wants to play in the Premier League for at least two to three more years.
“Our contact with Arsenal continues and we are moving in a positive direction.”
The World Cup winner was recently absent from international duty for Germany due to a knee inflammation.
