Juventus look set to land Chelsea a huge blow by agreeing a new contract with Alex Sandro, who happened to be the Blues top target in the just concluded transfer window.
Chelsea desperately wanted to sign Sandro before the transfer window closed but Juventus weren’t willing to sell him, after losing Bonucci to AC Milan.
The Brazilian reportedly had an agreement with Chelsea and wouldn’t have had any problem moving to Stamford Bridge if both clubs had reached an agreement but the move didn’t materialize because Juve weren’t willing to sell and he wasn’t prepared to force the move.
It is thought that Chelsea still retain a strong interest in the defender but any hope of signing him in the nearest future is about to be dashed as the defender closes in on a contract renewal at Juve.
According to Tuttosport via Calcio Mercato, Sandro is set to sign a new deal at Juve.
Sandro’s current contract expires in 2020 but the Turin giants want him to pen a two year extension, which will see him contracted to them until 2022. He is also expected to be rewarded with a considerable increase in his salary from € 2.8 million-a-year to € 4.5 million-a-year.
Juve are confident he will put pen to paper on the new deal which will all but end Chelsea’s hopes of signing him next summer.
Chelsea fans won’t be too happy with this development as most of us want the club to go back in for the world class defender next summer, but that won’t happen if he signs a new deal, except we will be willing to pay a crazy sum like the ‘Neymar to PSG’ fee.
