Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti claims that his side is all set for their Champions league tie against Valencia.
Ancelotti says that his side will be traveling to the Mestalla on Tuesday ‘mentally and physically’ prepared after their 3-1 win in a Ligue 1 match against Bastia on Friday.
The former AC Milan boss has decided to rest Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi by starting them on the bench, keeping an eye on the trip to Spain.
“We can go into the next match in the Champions League with confidence,” said Ancelotti in a recent interview given to France Football.
“It’s good preparation because the players have recuperated and we have the time to prepare mentally and physically.
“Menez has had a very good match and was decisive, while it was not difficult to convince Ibra (Ibrahimovic) to start from the bench.
“He understood why just as (Blaise) Matuidi and (Mamadou) Sakho did. There is always a risk of injury and the idea was to avoid it.”
The crucial win against Bastia has made Paris Saint-Germain to extend their lead to six points at the top of the Ligue-1 table.
Ancelotti insisted that he was pleased to grab all three points from their previous match, putting a pressure on the chasing teams.
“We won and took three points, which was our goal,” he said.
“These are three important points in the league. The other teams have to play now, but for us the important thing was to keep picking up results.”
Meanwhile, David Beckham should start his training session with Paris Saint-Germain next week and could make a debut against Sochaux in a Ligue 1 match on February 17.
“He is coming on Wednesday and will train at the Camp des Loges with the team,” Ancelotti said.
“We’ll see his fitness and whether he can perhaps play the match against Sochaux.”
PSG sporting Director Leonardo also paid tribute to Menez, who scored the first goal in their previous win.
“Sometimes we focus on big names like Ibrahimovic or Beckham and this is understandable, but today, I want to say a word about Jeremy Menez,” Leonardo said.
“I think he is a huge talent and if he continues to show the kind of inspirational form he displayed tonight, he will be a great player.
“He is an incredible talent and I really hope that he will be able to be consistent and keep that level for 60 games. If he does that, Jeremy Menez will have his place in the PSG’s history.”
