Chelsea are set to get one over their rivals Arsenal, with reports on the Metro suggesting that the club have decided they will loan out David Luiz in January, but not to a Premier League side.
David Luiz situation at Chelsea has been well documented, with the Brazilian falling out with manager Antonio Conte over the player’s criticism of his tactics after a Champions league defeat to Roma in October.
He was dropped from the team and later picked up a knee injury which has prevented him from trying to get his place in the squad back.
The lack of game time had led to the need for him to leave in January in search of first team football opportunities ahead of the World Cup.
Arsenal became interested in the defender as they looked to bolster their injury ridden defense with more solidity and experience, and Arsene Wenger’s reported admiration of the 30-year-old.
Chelsea however will not want to strengthen a direct rival and the Express says they will not permit him to move up north, even as they try to offload him by every means possible this January.
