Arsenal and Liverpool are set to go head to head in the battle for a man the Reds former player Coutinho would be displacing at Barcelona, Ivan Rakitic, according to the Telegraph.
The Croatian playmaker could see his place in the team taken to make space for new arrival Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona, and will be looking to leave at the end of the season should that happen.
He has now emerged as a target for Liverpool who will be looking to replace Coutinho, and Arsenal who look to be shaking up their midfield.
Rakitic has been a regular for the Spanish giants as he has been since making the move to Catalonia from Sevilla in 2014, missing only two games in all competitions this season.
However, with the arrival of Coutinho, he is among a number of players whose place in the starting lineup will be at risk when the Brazilian returns from injury.
Coutinho can play as part of a front three or in the midfield, should Barcelona decide to go for the latter, Rakitic could lose his place and the transfer will be more likely.
Arsenal and Liverpool will have to contend with Juventus as well as themselves for the midfielder’s signature either this January or more likely during the summer where his position in the team will be clear.
