Manchester United are weighing a move for Arsenal target Jorginho as they search for a long-term replacement for Micheal Carrick, according to various reports.
Carrick whose contract is up at the end of the season has made just a single appearance this season, and recently underwent a heart procedure. At 36, it is safe to say he is closer to retirement than a place in the starting lineup.
Manchester Evening news reporter, Samuel Luckhurst, believes that United are impressed by 26 year old Jorginho and see him as a candidate to replace the former England international ahead of next season.
Jorginho has score twice and provided three assists in 15 appearances this season, and according to Luckhurst he “is viewed as a more mobile holding option than the 29-year-old [Nemanja] Matic and a specialist in the role as opposed to [Ander] Herrera, who was converted to a more defensive-minded midfielder by [Jose] Mourinho last season.“
Brazilian born Jorginho recently got his international call up for Italy, he was regarded as “wonderful” by Pep Guardiola when his Manchester City side faced Jorginho’s Napoli in the Champions league. Jorginho scored in that game.
Jorginho has thrived in a possession based system throughout his career, adept at picking out targets in front of him with precise passes, little wonder Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also keen on securing his signature as a possible replacement for Santi Cazorla who has been injured for almost a year now.
It will be interesting to see how the battle between Wenger and Mourinho for his signature with pan out this January.
