Arsenal could be set to steal another sensational star this summer from bitter rivals Manchester United if reports making the rounds are anything to go by.

Teddy Sheringham says Arsenal target Marcus Rashford should be considering his future at Manchester United after being dropped for the Premier League fixture against West Ham.

With star striker Romelu Lukaku out injured, Rashford started against Brighton last week but his performance was criticised by Jose Mourinho following the shock 1-0 defeat.

For Thursday night’s trip to the London Stadium, Mourinho opted to start Alexis Sanchez up front, with both Rashford and Martial only named on the bench.

England international Rashford replaced Jesse Lingard with 20 minutes remaining but was unable to influence proceedings as the game ended goalless.

Rashford is said to be growing increasingly frustrated with his role at Old Trafford and Sheringham says he needs to be playing more regularly to fulfill his potential.

The former striker, who won three Premier League titles with Manchester United, told Sky Sports:

‘I said at the start of the season about Marcus Rashford that he needs to play games.

‘He needs to learn what he can get away with on a football pitch, what he can do, what he can’t do. You don’t learn that by watching other people play.

‘I don’t care how good the players are, it’s all about experience, it’s about making mistakes along the way and coming up against these players week in, week out and knowing how to prepare to play next season and the season after that.

‘But if you don’t get the experience, you don’t get the chance. All you do is sit and watch and you make mistakes later in life.

‘He needs to learn now, he’s an unbelievable talent for me, and he needs to be playing in a first-team somewhere.’

Despite Sheringham’s concerns over Rashford’s role at United, Mourinho insists the 20-year-old will not be leaving this summer.

Speaking ahead of the fixture at West Ham, he said:

‘[Rashford] impresses me. ‘That’s the reason why he was selected for every match of the season, absolutely every match of the season, and that’s why he played in so many of them.

‘So he doesn’t need to leave to play or to need anything.’
