Man United have turned their attention to Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho in a shocking development, according to Spanish newspaper Don Balon.
The Brazilian international has been linked to Barcelona since Neymar left the Camp Nou, with the Spanish side making a number of attempts to sign him last summer, but Liverpool held firm and refused to sell.
The Daily Star suggests that Jose Mourinho is desperate to improve his squad as United are 15 points behind league leader Man City halfway through the season.
United will now join Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain to fight for the 25-year-old, and are ready to come in with massive bids to convince Liverpool to sell.
Barcelona are relying on the fact that they feel Coutinho’s heart is set on a move to the Spanish giants, but Mourinho will not be deterred in his attempts to sign the attacking midfielder.
Man United are in search of an attacking midfielder with Mhkitaryan and Juan Mata likely to leave. Coutinho would represent an upgrade on both players, and fits the bill of the world class player Mourinho wants to add to his midfield.
