Arsenal are confident of signing Jonny Evans in the summer, according to reports.
Wenger pushed for the club to sign Evans in the winter transfer window but were unsuccessful in its attepmts.
West Brom wanted closer than £25m for the defender and in turn rejected Arsenal’s £10m bid.
The Gunners weren’t prepared to go higher than that figure and that’s understandable considering Evans may be available for £3m in the summer.
Wenger subsequently revealed his disappointment at not being able to strengthen the defense in January and revealed that the club couldn’t afford Evans for the price he was available.
Reports claim Evans has a £3m release clause in his contract which will become active if the Baggies suffers relegation and considering Alan Pardew’s men are currently battling relegation, then it’s a real possibility.
According to the Daily Mail via Sports Review, Arsenal are confident of signing Evans in the summer.
The report also says Wenger should be able to get his man for £25m in the summer, that’s assuming the Baggies manage to avoid the drop.
Arsenal haven’t manage to keep a clean sheet since December and much has been made from our failings at the back.
While Evans would go a long way to improve our options, I don’t think, he alone will be the solution to our problem.
The club should also look at strengthening both full back positions after signing Evans.
