The race for Steven Nzonzi just got hotter with reports that West Ham has joined the chase.
The Gunners were said to be frontrunners and reportedly pondered over whether to make a bid for the former Stoke City midfielder to beat off interest from Everton. But according to the Mirror, West Ham are looking to hijack the deal.
Approaching his thirties, Steven Nzonzi fits the mould of a typical West Ham signing, as he has a lot of Premier League experience playing for Blackburn and Stoke City.
However, he would cost close to his £36 million release clause according to some reports, and West Ham having already broken their transfer record this summer by signing Javier Hernandez for £16 million can afford it.
Nzonzi and Sevilla’s management had a fallout over a month ago, leading to the player missing seven games in a row, and admitting that his future lies elsewhere.
His son lives in London, and that fact is in the favour of the London clubs, but at nearly 30, Wenger might be looking for a younger option. What happens in the end with this transfer remains to be seen.
