Former Arsenal striker Robert Pires believes Arsenal have missed its chance to sign Thomas Lemar.
The Gunners were keen to sign Lemar in the summer transfer window but somehow couldn’t find a breakthrough because of the way Monaco handled negotiations.
Lemar was the subject of four bids from the Gunners, with the last a deadline day £90m bid but we weren’t successful as the player vetoed the move.
And Pires believes Arsenal will have no better chance to sign the Frenchman.
“Arsene tried to buy Lemar, and tried very hard, but I don’t think the move will happen now,” Pires told Bwin.
He added: “I don’t think he’s worth £90m, it’s too much, the market is crazy. What would Zidane and Ronaldinho be worth now!”
With Alexis Sanchez set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season, Arsenal are likely to return for Lemar and many Gooners will be hoping we are successful in signing him this time around.
The winger is obviously one of the best wingers of his generation and could achieve great things in the future.
That said, we know it isn’t going to be an easy deal to pull off, Liverpool are also keen on Lemar and more clubs are expected join the race to sign him. So we’ll have to pull a lot of strings to beat them to his signature.
Lemar will be a great signing for Arsenal both for the present and the future. He’s shown he has the ability to play at the top and since he is just 21, he is only going to get better.
