Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to join Arsenal in the race to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.
The 22-year-old who continues to impress in the Bundesliga has been has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates with various reports indicating he is a target for the Gunners.
The player is vastly talented and is expected to develop into one of the very best midfielders in the game.
Following the midfielder’s starring role for a largely second stream German side that lifted the Confederations Cup in Russia, it is understood that Goretzka is being monitored by scouts from a host of top clubs.
According to Tribal Football, Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to rival Arsenal for Schalke midfielder’s signature but it is the Gunners that have shown the most concrete interest.
Having rejected a new deal to remain at the Veltins-Arena despite entering into the final year of his contract, the player is understood to be keen on a move a top club.
Schalke are not prepared to let him go on a free and could be tempted into sell him in January – should the contract standoff continue.
Goretzka who joined Schalke from VfL Bochum in 2013 has since gone on to score 16 goals in 125 appearances for the club.
He has also won 10 senior caps for his country and could very well be a potential star at World Cup next summer.
With Gunners understood to be favorites his signature, Wenger looks set to sign a second top quality player on a free from Schalke in as many windows.
