Arsenal are set to compete with Tottenham and Manchester United for the signature of Bordeaux winger Malcom, according to the Daily Star.
The Brazilian has been scouted by United and Arsenal scouts, with both clubs very impressed, and Mourinho reportedly keen on signing the youngster before being put off by Bordeaux £44 million asking price.
Mourinho is still interested in the Brazilian in his pursuit for more creative options in attack, but his rival Arsene Wenger seems to have nicked this one, with the Metro claiming that the Gunners made an approach for the 20-year-old just before Christmas.
They also say Wenger is now open to letting Alexis Sanchez leave in January if a buyer meets his £35 million valuation, and is ready to replace the Chilean with the Brazilian U-23 international.
Bordeux are reluctant to part way with their prized asset and would rather wait till summer when his value would be much higher.
But Brazilian site Ora Bolas report that Malcom has a gentleman agreement with the club that they will allow him leave at the end of the season, this could make Bordeaux open to a January deal that includes a loan back till the end of the season.
The Brazilian moved to the French side from Corinthians for £4.5 million in 2016, and has since made 78 appearances, scoring 18 times.
He would represent a risky and expensive deal should the Gunners pull it off, judging that he has just a year and half experience of European football. It remains to be seen if Wenger would take such risk.
