Manchester City and Arsenal could go head to head for the services of Ajax star Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.
Both clubs battled each other on the pitch last Sunday afternoon and it was City who came out victors with a 3-1 win.
Arsenal will be hoping to seek revenge off the pitch as both clubs battle for Ajax’s talented midfielder de Jong.
According to Sunday Sun via Football Transfer Tavern, City and Arsenal are both interested in signing de Jong.
It’s being claimed both clubs have opened talks with the midfielder’s representatives over a possible switch as the January transfer window draws closer.
The 20 year old has been one of Ajax best players this season and his form has been noticed by Arsenal’s top brasses who are now determined to sign him.
He is expected to cost around £5m but that could go a bit higher if none of the two clubs refuse to drop their interest.
Chelsea are also believed to be watching from afar and may well join the move in the future.
While Premier League clubs are battling to sign de Jong, Ajax are working on offering him a new deal.
The Dutch side do not want to sell but they are aware they may have to let him go if he becomes fascinated by the prospect of playing in England’s topflight.
