Arsenal are in interested in signing Genoa youngster Pietro Pellegri. The teenage has recently begun to draw a lot interest having recently set a new record in Serie A.
Arsene Wenger is understood to want to change his tact regarding transfers, the gaffer now intends to be proactive rather than reactive in hopes of writing the wrongs of previous windows.
Whist arrivals that strengthen the first team are expected at the Emirates, the gaffer is also keen to continue with his policy of recruiting vastly talented youngsters who can eventually develop into top class players for the Gunners. At 16, it’s safe to assume that Pellegri falls into the latter category.
Reports in Italy indicate the Gunners are keen on Genoa wonderkid Pellegri, with the highly-rated teenager becoming Serie A’s youngest player to score two goals in one game.
According to Calciomercato via Daily Cannon, Arsenal are joined by league rivals Manchester City as well as Italian giants AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus in all showing interest in him. Pellegri has been compared to Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his imposing physical appearance despite being a very young player.
The youngster set the record when Genoa hosted Lazio. Pelligri came off the bench in the 33rd minute to haul his side back into the game on two occasions by netting equalizers for his side in the 57th and 73rd minutes. The youngster however ended his record breaking match in defeat after Ciro Immobile scored the last goal of the game to put the visitors ahead.
Should Wenger beat the competition to sign the young forward, much should not be expected of the teenage striker who is still very far from being the finished product. For that to be the case, Wenger would need to usurp AC Milan who are understood to be favorites for his signature as the Rosonerri have a good relationship with Genoa, having exchanged players between each other several times over the years.
