Arsenal have overtaken Chelsea as the frontrunners to sign Bayern Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey next month according to The Mirror.
The Jamaican born youngster has been a revelation this season and seems unstoppable with 8 goals in just sixteen appearances this season.
It is believed that Arsenal’s interest increased after they sent scouts to watch him twice last week. They watched him score twice against Hannover last Sunday in a thrilling 4-4 draw, before watching him scoring again on Wednesday, this time the winner in a German Cup quarter-final game against Borrusia Monchengladbach.
Chelsea were said to be leading the race with a reported 22 million bid rejected.
But Arsenal scouts were so impressed that the club is now prepared to splash 30 million on the winger to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who moved to Liverpool in the summer.
Arsenal is also set to lose Alexis Sanchez either in January if PSG or Man City makes or bid, or in the summer when his contract expires.
Theo Walcott’s future at the club is also uncertain, which means now more than ever the club is in need of an addition on the flanks.
Bailey would be a really good addition in my opinion, but Arsenal will have their work cut out in trying to persuade Leverkusen to sell as he has 5 years left on his deal.
