The Kareem Benzema rumors seem to be going nowhere as Arsenal have yet again been linked with a move for the Real Madrid striker.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the French international having closely monitored the player’s career right from his teenage days in Olympic Lyon.
Wenger’s quest to land to a World Class forward over the years saw Benzema annually linked with a move to the Emirates, but the French striker was never up for sale by Los Blancos.
The gaffer eventually signed Alexander Lacazette in a £50million switch from Lyon last summer but Benzema links with Arsenal continued, the French international then signed a contract extension with Madrid last month which was expected to end his links with a move away.
Recent reports emanating from Spain have however now disclosed that Wenger retains an interest in Benzema as he sees him as a capable replacement for Alexis Sanchez who is set to depart the Emirates in one of the next two windows.
It is Don Balon via Daily Cannon that has claimed Karim Benzema didn’t sign a new long-term contract with Real Madrid because he wants to stay there, but just so Los Blancos can get more money for him. The report further states Arsenal want him to cover the departure of Alexis Sanchez.
Whilst there is no denying Wenger’s admiration for his compatriot, it is surprising as to see why the gaffer would target him as Sanchez’s replacement.
Both forwards are no doubt World Class players but they however like to play different positions on the pitch.
