Arsenal legend Ian Wright has savaged the Gunners for their failure to get the best out of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during their 3-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
Arsenal slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, meaning they face an almighty battle to win silverware this season.
Aubameyang was signed from Borussia Dortmund last month and, though he scored on his debut against Everton, he has since drawn blanks against Manchester City and Tottenham in recent weeks.
He had the chance to score early on against City but the ball was wrestled away from him in the nick of time and, for the rest of the game, he was unable to provide a spark of magic.
And Wright has savaged Arsenal for their failure to get the best out of their £53million man so far.
“You look at Aubameyang, and you feel like though he’s a great goal scorer, I have not seen many chances created for him,” he said.
“He’s not a player who gets millions of touches, he runs in behind off the shoulder of the defender.
“We’ve seen he can score if he gets the chance.
“But Arsenal don’t work hard to win the ball, keep the ball and play it into the player who cost us nearly £60m.”
Wright also described Arsenal’s performance as ‘insipid’.
“Against Manchester City it was always going to be a tough ask,” he added.
“They have been magnificent all season, but it was disappointing the way Arsenal played.
“There was a lack of fight, lack of determination. It’s a final and players were walking.
“You don’t want to see the team you support in a final put in such an insipid performance.”
