Atletico Madrid have made breakthrough in negotiations with Chelsea over the transfer of Diego Costa, according to reports.
Both clubs have been in talks for quite sometime but are now closing in on an agreement after a lengthy period of negotiations.
Costa was told by Conte at the end of last season that he is no longer wanted at Chelsea and the striker has since then held out for a move to Atletico.
Attempts by Chelsea to sell him to other clubs failed because the player refused to return from his self imposed exile unless he was sold to Atletico.
With Chelsea keen to resolve the whole situation as soon as possible, the Blues appear to have softened it’s stand and will now allow the striker get his desired move to Atletico.
Sky Sports via the Express say the Spanish side are now confident of signing Costa. They believe an agreement wouldn’t be difficult to reach as progress is being made in negotiations.
However, there could still be one problem. Chelsea want around £50m for the striker while Atletico are only willing to pay about £30m.
This is £20m short of Chelsea’s valuation and a little less than what was spent to sign him in 2014, so I don’t think the deal will go through at this price.
It is likely that negotiations will drag on until January when Atletico can register new players, unless they considerably increase their offer.
