Chelsea are set to lose first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtios, after his agent informed Real Madrid that he is very keen to join them, according to Goal.
The goalkeeper currently has 18 months left on his current deal and has been stalling on attempts at a contract renewal, including a current deal on the table.
Antionio Conte wants to keep him and has spoken of his desire to resolve the Belgian international’s future and convince him to sign an extension on his current deal, with Chelsea even willing to make him the best paid goalkeeper in the world according to The Metro.
‘I can say Courtois is one of the best, maybe the best goalkeeper in the world
‘And he is a player very important for Chelsea. But the renewal of contract is a task for the club.
‘He knows very well my opinion and my thoughts about him. He will be the best in the world. Maybe he is now the best but, for sure, in the future for this goalkeeper [he will be the best].’ Conte said when asked about Courtois.
He however seems not to convinced by all that and has his sights set on a move to Madrid and The Metro believes he will push for a summer move to Spain where spent three seasons with Altletico Madrid, and his ex-girlfriend still lives with their two kids.
Real Madrid on their part are in search of a goalkeeper to serve as an upgrade on Keylor Navas, and have earmarked Altletico Bilbao’s Kepa and Man Utd’s DeGea as primary targets.
I think Conte and Chelsea might want to take Thibaut Courtois’s disloyalty, and the effect it’ll have on the dressing room morale, into account as they plan forward.
Should Chelsea try to get Courtois to sign a new deal, or should they offload him and go after a new target, what do you think? Drop your comments below.
