Belgium international midfielder Youri Tielemans has revealed he turned down a move to Arsenal in the just concluded summer window.
The player who was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer has now disclosed he was indeed approached by Arsene Wenger but opted for a move to that would immediately further his development into a top class midfielder over a move that was more financial beneficial to him.
Tielemans revealed himself that he rejected the opportunity to secure a lucrative move to North London and opted to play in the French League following his £22miliion move from Anderlecht to Monaco.
Tielemans said: “I knew not much was going to change with Arsenal’s squad. Reports The Mirror
“Their management wanted to keep the same group of players together in order to finish high in the Premier League.
“I had to be honest with myself and take a look at the midfielders Arsenal have got. They are top-class players.
“I knew that I would not get many first-team chances with them, so I didn’t give any more thought to joining them.
“I never said no to any club. But I made it clear where I wanted to go.”
The 20-year-old talented midfielder who is rated one of the best young prospects in European football has been dubbed for big things in his career.
He was named Player of the Year in Belgium and has already made his breakthrough into his country’s senior side under Roberto Martinez and looks to be a potential star at the World Cup next summer.
