Reports in Ghana are claiming Antonio Conte could give Baba Rahman a fresh chance in Chelsea’s first team this season.
Rahman is yet to feature for Chelsea under Conte who told the defender ahead of his debut season that he was too attacking for a full back and subsequently sent him out to Schalke to continue his development but a knee injury while on duty for Ghana later that season, halted the defender’s learning process.
He’s been out for the majority of the past year and is gradually nearing full fitness once again. His future was the subject of debate in the summer after Schalke refrained from signing him so he can recover fully at Chelsea.
Shockingly, Chelsea omitted him from its Premier League and Champions League squad, which will rule him out from featuring for the club until January at least.
But Ghanasoccernet.com reports Conte will give Rahman another chance at Chelsea.
The report claims Conte has now decided to ease the defender back into Chelsea’s first team fold with games for the club’s U23 and will continue to monitor his progress.
How this is going to happen is beyond me, if my memory serves me right, a player can only feature for a team if he is included in the team’s squad list, which Rahman wasn’t.
Consequently, he is 23, meaning he couldn’t have been included in the club’s U-21 list either. Obviously, the report didn’t get the right source in this case.
