Besiktas are understood to be set to join the race to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil next year.
With no news to report regarding any progress on an extension to his contract that runs out at the end of the current campaign, the German international who is likely to leave the Emirates next summer is continually linked with a move to various European clubs.
Whilst European giants Manchester United, Barcelona as well as Madrid duo Atletico and Real have been rumoured to be the front runners for Ozil’s signature, recent reports are however revealing that the player’s camp have promised to open talks with Besiktas in the New Year.
According to Fanatik via Daily Cannon, the Turkish club have been promised by Ozil’s representatives that talks will happen in January, when Ozil is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.
Though the World Cup winner has previously stated the opportunity to play in Turkey would surely interest him, it was Super Lig giants Fenerbahce he made a direct reference to.
While losing Ozil will definitely be a big blow to Wenger, especially for free, the player’s departure to European minnows Besiktas would be a lot better than losing him to direct rivals Manchester United.
With Alexis Sanchez already certain to depart the Emirates next summer, the possibility of losing the Chilean and Ozil in the same window for nothing is very scary. Next summer is already shaping up to be a very crucial one for Wenger as it will be extremely difficult to adequately replace both World Class players in the same window.
