Chelsea are reportedly still keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.
The Blues were believed to be keen on Roberto in the summer but Barcelona weren’t interested in selling the 25 year old.
The player was willing to quit the Camp Nou in the summer but Barca’s reluctance to sell meant he had no choice but to stay.
Catalan Based newspaper Mundo Deportivo via the theshedender.com are now reporting Chelsea are still keeping an eye on Roberto as Barca are yet to offer him a new contract.
The Catalans will look to tie the midfielder down to a new contract but there is no urgency from them to do that at the moment.
Roberto’s contract expires in 2019 and despite his €40m release clause, Barca believe they have enough time to offer the defender a new deal.
Chelsea’s interest is likely to have died down after we signed Zappacosta because we now have enough options at right wing back.
The center midfield is another position where Roberto is comfortable but the presence of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater means we are not in a dire need for another midfielder.
I think Roberto will end up signing a new contract at Barca unless he’ll be joining another club that isn’t Chelsea. The Blues have no need for the midfielder at the moment.
