Ruud Gullit has cast his prediction for tonight’s Champions League clash between Chelsea and Barcelona.
The two sides face off in the first-leg of their last-16 clash at Stamford Bridge as they rekindle their storied rivalry with their first meeting in six years.
The visitors, still unbeaten in La Liga after 24 games, are the favourites to progress to the last eight despite the quality of Antonio Conte’s side.
And the reigning Premier League champions know they will have to keep the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez quiet while hoping that their own forwards, namely Eden Hazard, can do some damage at the opposite end.
Conte himself admitted that Chelsea need to play the “perfect game” to beat a Barca side he named as one of the best in the world.
But former Chelsea player and manager Gullit, who led the Blues to a first major title in 26 years with the 1997 FA Cup, is expecting a tight-knit affair and believes his old club can provide a stiff test to the Catalan giants.
“Tonight it’s going to be Chelsea against Barcelona,” he said in a video posted on Twitter. “It’s going to be a tactical game. Messi doesn’t do well against English clubs.
“There has been a history of course, where the referee didn’t do that well for Chelsea.
“But nevertheless also the Spanish have that Chelsea never comes at the right moment.
“It’s going to be tactical, I think it’s going to be a draw, not many goals.
“We hope there’s a lot of goals but I don’t think so, so a draw.”Chelsea are unbeaten in their last seven Champions League games against Barcelona, though have won just two of those meetings.
