Arsenal have made an offer for Di Maria to move from Paris Saint Germain to the Emirates Stadium, but the player’s memories of his time in England with Manchester United is making him unsure of a move back to England again, according to reports on the Express.
The Argentine is being lined up by the Gunners as a replacement for outgoing Alexis Sanchez, who is on the verge of a move to one of the Manchester clubs this month. But reports from Spain claim that Arsene Wenger’s side will have their work cut out trying to persuade the winger to let go of his memories at Man United and sign for them.
Di Maria was signed in 2014 for a then British transfer fee record of £60 million, by Man United ahead of Arsenal who were also after him.
His transfer was among the first transfers made by Man United during Louis Van Gaal’s tenure, and like the Dutchman’s tenure, Di Maria’s life at Old Trafford started out brightly, the Argentine quickly settled in and became a crowd favorite, before both club and player form took a nosedive as the season wore on.
To make matters worse a break-in occurred at his family home, which left the fleet footed midfielder scarred, Louis Van Gaal’s poor man management saw his time in Manchester come to an end after just 12 months.
Arsenal now want to bring him back to England as PSG need to offload some players to balance the books after signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for world record sums.
Arsenal certainly need a player of his quality at this point in time, but they will have their work cut out trying to convince him to pick them over a stay in Paris and offers from Atletico Madrid and Valencia.
