Arsenal target Marco Reus is set to hand the Gunners a huge blow by penning a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, according to Bild via the Daily Cannon.
Reus was linked with a move to Arsenal last season as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez if he had left the Emirates in the summer.
But Reus is set to snub Arsenal and other suitors in favor of signing a new deal at Dortmund.
The Bundesliga club are even confident the forward will sign a new deal, with their Sporting director Micheal Zorc, saying: “We see Marco with us in the long run.”
Reus would have been a perfect signing to bolster our attacking options especially as we are expecting Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to leave the club in the summer.
When fit, the German is one of the best in his position and is someone that would have really strengthened our first team considerably.
So it isn’t surprising to see why Dortmund are keen to extend the player’s contract even though he still has about two years left.
Reus has been at Dortmund since 2012 and that’s where he made his name as one of Europe’s best.
Last season, he struggled with injuries, making just 17 league appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists throughout the entire campaign.
The summer before he missed the European Championships due to injury also and is currently yet to recover from the cruciate ligament injury he sustained last season.
Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprise if Reus decides to stay at Dortmund until he finally gets his injury troubles behind him.
