Manchester United star Ander Herrera has regained Jose Mourinho’s trust after a string of fine performances in high profile games in the last six weeks which has forced the club to trigger an extension on his contract.
The Spaniard was named Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year during Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford and he made 50 appearances in all competitions.
However, Nemanja Matic’s arrival has pushed Herrera down the pecking order at Old Trafford and he’s made just 12 starts in United’s league campaign this term.
Herrera, though, has forced his way back into contention at the Theatre of Dreams and he played a major role in wins against Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal in the last six weeks.
Mourinho has safeguarded the likes of Romelu Lukaku, David De Gea and Matic this season but every other player has been under threat – both in terms of their place and their futures at the club.
However, according to the Independent, Herrera has now regained Mourinho’s trust after perfectly following his orders in recent games.
The Spaniard is now a regular starter again and United have looked a better side with him playing in between Matic and Paul Pogba.
Herrera’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season but United triggered a 12-month extension.
The midfielder is keen to stay at Old Trafford and United are likely to offer him a new deal in the coming months.
