The Sun are claiming Arsenal could still have a chance of signing Idrissa Gueye, despite the midfielder closing in on a new deal at Everton.
Arsenal were linked with Gueye in the summer but a move didn’t materialize.
Gueye is now set to sign a new deal with Everton which will see him remain at the club until 2022. He is also set to earn £4m per year, making him one of the Toffees best paid.
The new deal is suppose to end interest in the midfielder’s services but the Sun via the Daily Cannon claim, top clubs like Arsenal would still get the chance to sign the midfielder.
According to the report, Gueye has reached a gentleman agreement with Everton, which will allow him leave the club if a Champions League team comes in for him.
It does mean if we are to make to sign Gueye in the future, we’ll have to qualify for the Champions League first.
While that isn’t bad for us, I can’t understand why Everton have included such clause in his contract when they are looking to break into the top four themselves.
Gueye has drawn comparisons with N’Golo Kante whom Wenger tried to sign before he joined Chelsea and could well be a target of Arsenal in the future.
