Arsenal’s new boss Unai Emery certainly means business in restructuring his squad after taking over from Arsene Wenger last month.
Sky Sports claims new Arsenal boss wants to give Petr Cech tough competition in goal next season and he has identified the 26-year-old German goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayern Leverkusen.
German outlet SportBild says Arsenal have moved quickly for Leno with the signing likely to happen imminently.
The German goal stopper was not selected to represent his country for this year World Cup despite his outstanding performance in the Bundesliga; he kept 12 clean sheets in all competitions for his team last season.
The German club are said to want a minimum of £22m for the goalkeeper.
Arsenal are also interested in signing Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins.
Martins is among a host of Sporting Lisbon stars revolting against the club after a trouble-stricken season.
Players were assaulted at a training session last month and Martins has moved to release himself from his deal, insisting he has ‘just cause’ to terminate the contract.
This means Martins should be available on a free this summer, just days after Arsenal reportedly lodged two bids for his services.
Sporting wanted £90million for Martins 12 months ago, but the 23-year-old is set to walk away from Portugal for free.
Emery has already bolstered the defence with the free transfer of Stephan Lichtsteiner and a £16 million deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
