English midfielder Jack Wilshere has been reported to be close to signing an extension on his contract with Arsenal, According to the Metro.
The midfielder who has enjoyed an injury free season will be out of contract by the end of this season, however Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has indicated that he would prefer if the England international remains at the club and Arsenal believes that his injury record deserves to be taken into account during negotiations.
The 25-year-old according to reports has not signed the deal because Arsenal wants him to accept a lower salary of £90 000 per week as well as incentives and bonuses which would be highly dependent on his appearance and performance.
Since the situations that surrounded Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez contracts last month, there have been concerns about Wilshere especially as he is fit and playing regular first team football.
Arsene Wenger when questioned on the matter was reported to have agreed to do everything he can to make sure Wilshere remains at the club. He stated “I’m positive because I want him to stay. I do the maximum I can to make him happy” in an interview (via Metro).
