Chelsea have confirmed it has reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the transfer of Diego Costa.
Both clubs have been in negotiations over the sale of the striker since the summer transfer window but an agreement couldn’t be reached before the window closed.
Costa made it known that he would only leave for Atletico Madrid, making it difficult for the club to get him out.
Atletico, being aware of Costa’s intention to only leave Chelsea for Madrid, played the waiting game, hoping to get him on a cheap but the Blues negotiation team stood its ground, holding out for at least £50m.
However, they have now reached an agreement which is now only subject to a medical.
It’s being reported that Chelsea would get about £53m from the sale, with £40m initial payment and the rest in add-ons.
Atletico can’t register any new player until January, meaning Costa won’t feature for Atletico when Chelsea travel to the Wanda Metropolitan next Wednesday.
The Brazil international joined Chelsea for £32m in the summer of 2014 and went on to score 58 goals in 120 appearances. He was crucial to our Premier League triumph last season, with his goals winning a minimum of 15 points throughout the whole campaign.
Indeed Chelsea have lost a warrior but I am sure we will do just fine without him.
