Arsenal have already announced a deal for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno and the club is expected to announce a deal for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira very soon, according to the SUN
Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero, have confirmed the deal, revealing a £26m deal has been agreed with the Gunners.
Ferrero told TMW: “Torreira has left for €30million.
“I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him.
“We took a gamble on him and we won, paying just £2.75m
“The money that comes in will be used to capitalise the company.”
Juventus and Napoli were keen to sign him and Sampdoria had been so desperate to keep him one extra season in 2016, they reportedly offered to decrease his release clause.
Who is Lucas Torreira?
Torreira graduated from the Pescara academy, which has produced the likes of Ciro Immobile, Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Insigne in recent years.
Diminutive and combative, he arrived in Italy as a striker in the Carlos Tevez mould, but was transformed into a defensive midfielder by former manager Massimo Oddo.
Who makes way for him?
The midfielder is currently in Russia as part of the Uruguay squad for the World Cup and is expected to complete his transfer to the Emirates Stadium once the tournament has finished.
Sources believe he was signed to replace Jack Wilshere who confirmed he is leaving his boyhood club on Tuesday.
