Shakhtar Donetsk captain Darijo Srna has dropped an enormous hint that Fred is on his way to either Manchester United or Manchester City this summer.

Fred has made 153 appearances for Shakhtar since joining the club back in 2013 but the 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

The Brazilian won the Ukrainian Cup with Shakhtar on Wednesday night in what could one of his final matches for the club – and he uploaded a video of the side’s celebrations from the changing room. Fred made his way around a number of his team-mates before grabbing Srna for a word.

‘Let’s go, Brazil…Champions, champions!’ Srna can be heard saying on Fred’s Instagram Live. ‘Fred now is going to Manchester. He doesn’t know if it’s City or United. Let’s know!’

Doing his best to sidestep Srna’s comment, Fred laughs before embarking on a

mission to find more team-mates. Probably ones that weren’t likely to dob him in…

Reports last month suggested that City had pulled out of the race for Fred and United are now in pole position to sign the Brazil international. Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing two midfielders to Old Trafford this summer, with Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini set for their final matches with the Red Devils.

Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin admitted in March that Fred is set for a move to Manchester this summer.

‘Fred will leave in June. If not to Manchester City, then to Manchester United,’ Palkin told Corriere dello Sport.

‘He is ready for the best championships. ‘In addition to being very good, Fred is very professional.’

Fred’s agent – Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva – has also revealed that Fred is keen on a move to England. He told Sky Sports: ‘Yes [we’ve had inquiries from the Premier League]. We had in this last window but it didn’t happen.

‘Shakhtar Donetsk rely too much on him, he’s doing a great job for the club. Let’s see for the summer.

‘I’ve been talking to him telling his to concentrate on his job. This is all he can do. The chance will come [to move], but he needs to focus. ‘It’s easy to get lost amid rumours which sometimes aren’t true.’
