Man United are still interested in signing Mesut Ozil even after submitting a bid for fellow Arsenal player Alexis Sanchez, according to the Metro.
Manchester City were favourites to sign the 29-year-old Chilean before Man United joined in on the chase and went ahead with a £25 million bid reportedly tabled.
Man United has had the plans to sign Ozil at the end of his current deal which expires in 6 months for a while, before they entered the race to sign fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez recently, however their interests in the Chilean has not detracted their attention from Mesut Ozil.
The Sun believes that Jose Mourinho sees the German playmaker who he worked with at Madrid as the ‘integral part missing from his United team’.
However, they risk losing out on the attacking midfielder as Arsene Wenger is confident he can convince him to sign a new deal.
He said: “It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract.
“But we want to keep Jack [Wilshere] and if we have an opportunity maybe to keep Ozil, the rebuild will be less deep than if all three left.”
The Frenchman added talks for a new Ozil contract are “very much alive” and there is “still an opportunity for him to stay”.
United stand a greater chance of signing Alexis who is certain to leave, but then they will have to hope Ozil decides not to renew his deal at Arsenal.
