Borussia Dortmund are desperate to sell their striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang before the transfer deadline, amid interest from Arsenal, according to the Express.
The Gabonese striker’s transfer is becoming a saga with talks between the two clubs stalling, following two rejected bids believed to be £45 million and £50 million as Dortmund hold out for a reported £60 million.
The Gunners have already brought in Henrikh Mhkitaryan in the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Manchester United, but Aubameyang is seen as a more direct replacement for the Chilean, prompting Ivan Gazidis to travel to Germany to thrash out a deal for him.
Arsenal however are in a better negotiating position, with the club hierarchy, manager and fans all desperate to see their star man leave after series of disciplinary issues without sign of remorse.
The striker was suspended for last month after missing a team meeting, and on his return last week the fans showed their anger by displaying a banner which read “No Player Is Bigger Than The Club”.
Club manager Tom Stoger stated that he would like to see Aubameyang’s transfer sorted out quickly
“I can only say that we would soon like to have a solution to this situation,” Stoger said.
“Whatever the outcome of this matter, everyone would agree that whatever brings clarity will help the team.”
