France manager Didier Deschamps has warned Olivier Giroud that he must be playing regularly if he wants to remain a part of the national team.
Giroud has been France’s first choice striker in recent years but the striker now face a fight to hold on to the starting spot due to his lack of playing time at club level.
Speaking ahead of the international break, Deschamps warned that Giroud’s starting spot in the French national team isn’t as sure as it used to be.
“This is not ideal. His playing time is reduced.
“He plays the Europa League.
“I will not take away from him what he did with us, he has very good statistics, but I would prefer him to be in a club where he plays almost all games.
“He made the decision to stay at Arsenal. It’s his choice.
“It can have consequences like all other players,” he said, as reported by France Football.
Giroud is currently behind Alexandre Lacazette in Wenger’s pecking order, meaning the towering striker is set to spend a second consecutive season playing second fiddle, after he lost his place in the team to Sanchez last season.
Deschamps warning will definitely strike the forward so hard and it could mean that he will ask to leave in January.
The striker had the opportunity to leave Arsenal in the summer but opted to stay at Arsenal to fight for a place in the starting xi but with his national place now in doubt, it is unlikely he will think about staying if he isn’t playing regularly when the transfer window reopens.
