Lucas Perez is happy he was able to secure a return to Deportivo La Coruna, after a turbulent debut season at Arsenal.

The 28 year old striker completed a £17m move from Deportivo last August, but failed to make an impact at the Emirates.

However, one can’t fault him for his failures because he wasn’t given enough opportunity to show his qualities.

Wenger had bought Perez to compete with Giroud for the centre forward role, but a Sanchez experiment at centre forward became the manager’s preferred formation for majority of last season.

In July, the boss brought in Alexandre Lacazette in a club record £53m deal which all but ended Perez chances of playing for Arsenal.

The Spaniard immediately began to push for a move back to Deportivo but it wasn’t until the final hours of the transfer window that he got his wishes granted.

According to the player, Arsenal didn’t want him to return to Deportivo but he only had interest in joining the Spanish side.

“I’m where I want to be,” Lucas said, as reported by Football Espana .

“I have a right to decide what is going to happen with my future and what I want to do.

“Arsenal understood that and I’m grateful to them. They understood my situation and the fact that I wanted to return home.

“Arsenal defended their own interests, they initially didn’t want me to return to Deportivo.

“They have reached agreements with many clubs but I clearly told them that my intention was to join Depor and no other alternative.

“I don’t want to give a number but in the last three or four days I spoke to many sporting directors and coaches. But I reiterated that my wish was to return to Deportivo.”

Lucas comments confirmed an earlier report which claimed as many as eight clubs submitted proposals to sign him. However, none of them were willing to meet Arsenal’s £13.4m price tag.
