Thomas Tuchel has been in talks with Arsenal in recent months.
That is according to German football legend Lothar Matthaus.
Arsene Wenger is once again under pressure at the Emirates after overseeing another poor domestic campaign.
Arsenal currently sit sixth in the Premier League, 13 points off the elusive Champions League places.
But the Frenchman will be hoping to salvage the Gunners’ campaign by winning the Europa League.
A whole host of big names have been linked with replacing Wenger this summer, including Tuchel.
And Matthaus insists his fellow countryman has been discussing terms in north London.
“You know, I’m a journalist too, we have to make headlines every day,” he told Omnisport after playing in a Liverpool and Bayern legends match on Saturday.
“I think Thomas Tuchel can be the favourite, [the] ex-coach from Borussia Dortmund, but I know he’s in touch with Arsenal and nobody knows what happens behind the doors.”
Tuchel recently managed Borussia Dortmund after leaving Mainz in 2015.
The 44-year-old won the DFB-Pokal but was dismissed three days later after falling out with the club’s hierarchy.
And one of the men Tuchel reportedly failed to see eye-to-eye with was Sven Mislintat, who is now Arsenal’s chief scout.
Carlo Ancelotti, Joachim Low and Mikel Arteta have also been touted as potential successors to Wenger.
