Premier League rivals Everton will not lodge a winter offer for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the New Year as he is now set to remain at the Emirates till the end of the current campaign at the very least.
The Toffees have been heavily linked with a move for the striker since the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United last summer.
Having been unsuccessful with their efforts in the last window, the Merseyside club who are understood to retain an interest in Giroud were initially incorrectly reported to be returning with a fresh offer for the 30-year-old.
Starsport had last week claimed that Koeman was set to go back in for Giroud in January with a £40m offer. However, that speculation is now understood to be wide of the mark.
Starsport via Daily Star has now learnt Everton will in fact not chase Giroud again in their bid to add to their attacking ranks.
News of Everton unwilling to pursue a deal for Giroud in January would sound like music to the ears of Wenger.
The French international who has been a victim of the Gunners strength in depth in attack may very well have been tempted by a move to Everton as he is yet to start a Premier League this season.
Though Giroud continues to divide opinion amongst Gooners, there is however no argument over his finishing ability after the striker scored his 100th Gunners goal during Thursday night’s 4-2 Europa League win over BATE Borisov.
The French forward who has developed a habit of impacting the game from the substitutes bench in recent times will surely have an important role to play as the season unfolds.
