Belgium based football journalist Kristof Terreur has hailed Charlie Musonda as the best player the country has ever produced.
Speaking in an interview with Transfer Window Podcast, Terreur was full of praise for the 20 year old winger who has been at Chelsea since he was 16.
Despite boasting the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne etc, Terreur believes we are yet to see the best talent Belgium has ever produced in action.
“Charly Musonda is sometimes on the bench for Chelsea, sometimes playing in the League Cup games.
“He’s Belgium’s best talent ever. Purely if you look at his technical skills. Physically he’s quite skinny.
“He went to Chelsea when he was 16 and he still hasn’t got his break.
“He went to Betis on loan and did well and started to think he could be in the national team squad and be Belgium’s next star.
“Then he got injured and was sent back to Chelsea. And he didn’t
believe it anymore and he wanted to leave and Conte persuaded him to stay.
“And now he’s playing a few games this season but that’s not enough to develop.”
Musonda is yet to earn a regular spot at Chelsea and only made his full debut in a league cup game against Nottingham Forest last month.
He scored his first goal in that game and showed flashes of his potential. Chelsea fans will be hoping he manages to break the academy jinx at Chelsea and goes on to play a key role in the team someday.
He has all the qualities to be a key player for Chelsea in the future, it just depends on whether he’ll get the chance to stake a claim in the squad.
