Real Madrid forward and Arsenal target Marco Asensio has revealed the presence of a release clause in his contract.
The forward was heavily linked with Arsenal in the summer transfer window but nothing materialized because the player wasn’t interested in leaving Madrid.
It was claimed Arsenal were willing to activate the winger’s £72m release clause but nothing came out of that.
Asensio has now confirmed he does have a release clause in his contract but insists he isn’t interested in leaving the Bernabeu.
Speaking in an interview with Cadena Cope as quoted by the Daily Cannon, Asensio said:
“Yes it’s true I have a release clause here, but no I don’t think I will be leaving.
“I believe I have been playing very well and this has been replicated by the fans and the club who have shown me a lot of love. I would not join Paris Saint-Germain, I am happy where I am.”
Real Madrid are reportedly keen on extending Asensio’s new contract in order to up his release clause or scap it off.
PSG’s capture of Neymar in the summer has taught clubs a lesson that release clauses doesn’t really deter suitors from top players.
However, Madrid don’t have to worry for now as Asensio is happy at the club. He is now a regular at the club, winning trophies and progressing well. There is actually no reason whatsoever for him to want a change of scenario at the moment.
