Italian giants Inter Milan have declared their interest in signing Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in the New Year.
The German international who is into the last year of his contract at the Emirates has been linked with a host of top European clubs, the Nerazurri who had been credited by various reports with an interest in the midfielder have now publicly acknowledged their intentions to recruit the player.
The Italian club who have made a very good start to the season are currently third on the Serie A log behind only Champions Juventus and Napoli with the duo on perfect starts.
The Nerazurri are understood to keen to build on the good start in order to seal a long awaited return to Europe’s premier club competition. Inter are thus expected to further strengthen their squad in the winter window.
Speaking on his clubs plans for the window, club president Erik Thohir confirmed that the Serie A side’s interest in Arsenal playmaker.
“He [Ozil] is definitely one of those players we are looking at, but the last January signings of [Lukas] Podolski and [Xherdan] Shaqiri proves winter signings can fail to live up to expectations,” Thohir said, reports Metrotv.news.com via Goal
The Italian side’s caution about the player’s mid-season arrival coupled with Wenger’s expected reluctance to release the player in January means a deal for Ozil to move to the San Siro in January seems very unlikely.
Unlike the Sanchez situation though, Wenger is understood to remain confident a deal can still be agreed with the World Cup winner to extend his stay at the Emirates beyond the current campaign.
