Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexandre Lacazette did not understand the reason behind Arsenal’s decision to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Metro.
Aubameyang joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day of the January transfer window in a £56 million deal and quickly relegated Lacazette to the bench as he took his place in attack against Everton and scored as Arsenal romped to a 5-1 victory over the Toffees.
Lacazette was left on the bench for the entirety of the match and when asked how the now former club record signing reacted to being dropped for the new club record signing, Arsene Wenger said: “You do not have to understand too much, you know, what you want is that everybody focuses to win the game.”
‘Is it do they start the game or not? In this game [against Everton] he did not come on because we had a problem with the goalkeeper.
‘But, overall, you do not want as well the players to understand too much why they don’t play.
‘They don’t understand and I agree completely with them, they all want to play, that’s natural and that’s normal.”
Aubameyang will not be eligible to play in the Europa league as he has already featured in the competition this season for Dortmund, and with Giroud gone, Alexandre Lacazette will be looked upon to lead the line in Europe.
