Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, who has just won the Europa League with the Spanish club, before the start of the World Cup 2014.
The 21-year-old has been an impressive player for Sevilla in the last 12 months. A number of clubs including Chelsea are thought to be monitoring the situation, but according to reports, it is Liverpool who have made the first move. They are thought to have made a £ 20 million offer for the young defender. This is money aside from the £ 25 million that they are prepared to spend on Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers stated today that the club will be looking towards signing players on a permanent basis. After having dominated the loan market with signings like Victor Moses, Rodgers says that the return to Champions League will help the club attract top names without having to spend big money.
Chelsea will be made aware of the offer from Liverpool for Moreno. They are reportedly seeing him as the backup option should they fail to get Luke Shaw from Southampton. The blues are in need of serious left backs after allowing Ashley Cole to leave on a free transfer.
Moreno is an attacking full-back who will certainly complement Glen Johnson, who raids down the right flank. He has scored three goals and created one in 35 appearances last season. The Spanish full-back has two international appearances and has been included in the provisional squad for the World Cup 2014.
