Liverpool and Tottenham will benefit from the doubt surrounding the future of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, with both teams finishing inside the Premier League top four.
Those are the thoughts of former Liverpool defender and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.
Chelsea beat West Brom 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last night to end a run of two consecutive league defeats.
But doubts still continue to linger over Conte’s role, with the Italian vocally unhappy at the club’s transfer business in numerous press conferences this season.
The Blues returned to fourth place after the win over the Baggies, one point clear of Tottenham in fifth and one behind Liverpool in third.
Nicol understands there is still a long way to go in the Premier League, with 33 points still up for grabs.
However, on current form, he cannot see Chelsea finishing above either Liverpool or Tottenham, with Manchester City and Manchester United making up the other two top-four spots.
“It’s kind of swung recently with Chelsea and Man United looking vulnerable,” Nicol said.
“Tottenham and Liverpool are on the up. But there’s 11 games to go, the thing could swing the other way as well.
“I’m going to say Chelsea (will miss out).
“What they did last night is what we’ve expected of them.
“But with this Conte thing hanging around, I don’t see Chelsea in the top four.”
